Underground America editor Peter Orner is the keynote speaker at the 2nd Annual Distinguished Lecturer Series, presented by the Sacramento County Bar Association. He will be speaking about his work as a human rights attorney, author and oral historian for the Voice of Witness series. For full event details, click here.

Voice of Witness and StoryCorps will co-present an evening at the Contemporary Jewish Museum about the power of oral history to penetrate deeply into individual lives, as well as prompt social and political transformation. Out of Exile editor Craig Walzer will be in conversation with Melvin Reeves, StoryCorps Planner and former Manager, Family Support Services, American Red Cross September 11th Recovery Program. In addition, the evening will feature clips from the StoryCorps archive, as well as live interviews with featured Voice of Witness and StoryCorps participants from around the world. Out of Exile editor Craig Walzer will be speaking at the 18th Annual Book Passage Travel Writers & Photographers Conference. Craig will discuss his experiences traveling around Sudan, Kenya and Egypt conducting research and interviews for the book. For more information, visit the conference website.

Out of Exile editor Craig Walzer will be speaking at UCSF for a fund and awareness-raising event hosted by Health Alliance for Sudan. The event is centered around healthcare in Sudan and health issues faced by IDPs (internally displaced persons) and refugees. Proceeds from this event will benefit Juba Teaching Hospital.

Saturday, April 25th, 2:30 PM, Old South Church, Newburyport, Massachusets: Underground America editor Peter Orner will be speaking at this event with social activist Drew Hendrickson as part of the Newburyport Literary Festival. For Underground America, Orner compiled and edited the stories of various men and women who came to the United States and confronted life-changing challenges that they never expected. This book is a collection of first-hand accounts, illuminating the human experiences that elude the headlines and are rarely considered in political discourse about immigration. The discussion will center on the power of the human story and the often harsh reality of immigration in the US.
